One-way link is where a link to a particular website is displayed on another, with no back linking. These are basically intended to promote only the website to which the link is directed. It is the most common form of link campaigning. Instead of waiting for customers to spread the word, links are actively provided at all suitable places to increase visibility of the site.

A link can be put up in business directories or sites that host registers of product manufacturers and service providers. An article posted on a social networking site carrying a lead to its origin is a one-way link. Including urls while sending mails contributes to one-way campaigns.

One way campaigning has to be carried out on a large scale for the effective promotion of web traffic. Often it is just a request forwarded to web directories and other sites. This opens a wide area of use of such campaigns to social networking sites, sites hosting newsletters and articles, and others which are more dependent on revenue generated from traffic. While directories are not always effective in increasing traffic, it still adds to your potential viewer ship. Efficacy of such campaigns is directly proportional to the number one-way links produced on the web.
